'Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ' 1 Corinthians 11:1
Corinth was a place that really mixed it up when it came to different cultures and religions. Loads of different gods were thrown together in that place, a bit like a Jamie Oliver salad with 'a bit of this, and a bit of that' (only not quite so healthy).
Paul brought the gospel of Jesus Christ into this mixed-up place and soon a church had been established. Now Paul is passionately writing to the church about how to live amongst unbelievers: 'Even though I am free of the demands and expectations of everyone, I have voluntarily become a servant to any and all in order to reach a wide range of people: religious, non-religious, meticulous moralists, loose-living immoralists, the defeated, the demoralised - whoever.
I didn't take on their way of life. I kept my bearings in Christ - but I entered their world and tried to experience things from their point of view.
I've become just about every sort of servant there is in my attempts to lead those I meet into a God-saved life. I did all this because of the Message. I didn't just want to talk about it; I wanted to be in on it! (1 Cor. 9:19-23 TM)'.
Are you 'in on it' too? It's so important to not just be cooped up in a Christian bubble with just you and your Christian chums. Paul would tell you to pop that bubble and open your life out to those around you who need Jesus.
