'We become more and more like Him' 2 Corinthians 3:18
In their hit single, When I Grow Up, the Pussycat Dolls sing, 'When I grow up I wanna be famous, I wanna be a star, I wanna be in movies; When I grow up I wanna see the world, Drive nice cars, I wanna have groupies; When I grow up be on TV, people know me, be in magazines; When I grow up, fresh and clean; Number one chick when I step out on the scene.' A catchy dance track - but hardly the life-changing lyrics that Jesus would want us to live by!
The Bible says we are to 'become more and more like Him.' More like Jesus - thinking like Him, His ideals becoming our ideals! Perhaps some alternative, more Jesus-style lyrics might be: 'When I grow up I wanna be smart, I wanna be ecologically aware, I wanna be kind to my fellow man and do something on the planet besides promoting my own bare flesh with all the desperation of a crack addict on the third day of withdrawal.
'When I grow up I wanna be valued for something other than my ***** and bum and my ability to shake them in time to music. I wanna address social imbalances that make the rich richer and the poor poorer. 'When I grow up I wanna be an instrument for peace, and for things that really matter, like true love that doesn't depend on appearances, and the realisation of higher spiritual values in the everyday world.' What do you think?
