'We become more and more like Him' 2 Corinthians 3:18
When we're growing up, we all have our own ideas of who we want to be, how we want to dress, what we want to do. We form our own opinions and they're the ones that matter, we want to be our own person. It's never music to our ears when we hear, 'Ooh, you look just like your mum' from your Auntie Ethel, and 'Oh, you sound just like dad' from your Granddad Tom.
Yeah, sometimes we want to dress like our friends, and follow the latest trends, copy styles, but it's our choice right? We're still our own person!
When we read in the Bible that 'we should become more like Him' - like Jesus - it can freak us out. It's not about growing a beard, moving to Israel and wearing a dress (makes your school uniform suddenly sound very appealing!) And there's no need for that panic attack thinking all Christians are supposed to all become clones of one another (imagine church services looking more like scenes from Shaun of the Dead!)
God's talking about Character Building not Christian Cloning when He says, 'Take on an entirely new way of life - a God-fashioned life, a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces His character in you' (Eph. 4:22-24 TM). Make this your No.1 priority this year!
