There's Something About Mary
'She poured it on Jesus' feet' John 12:3
It would be nice to feel that the day could now and again just glide you along like your nana's Stannah stairlift wouldn't it? But days can go by when you feel that all you've got to give God are the tail ends of the day, the scraps. It can feel like you haven't worshipped God with the best you've got to give.
Let's look at the way Mary worshipped Jesus: 'Mary took ... expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped His feet with her hair.' We see loads of Mary's character in this.
Washing Jesus' feet shows how servant-hearted and humble she was before Him. She poured out her expensive perfume on Him. We're not talking pipette quantities here - it was enough to perfume the whole house. She wanted to give the God the best of all she had.
Also, remember this took place at a banquet, with lots of people watching her. She didn't let other people being there intimidate her from worshipping Jesus. And the fact that Mary used her hair to wipe Jesus' feet was amazing, as Jewish women rarely let their hair down in public. It shows how personal she was with Jesus and how little she cared about what she looked like.
Let's go all out for God like Mary! Let's seek to please God rather than other people like Mary. Don't worry what you look like being caught with your Bible! Let yourself be Spirit-guided in a chat about your relationship with God instead! Give God the best. 'Praise is beautiful, praise is fitting' (Psalm 147:1 TM).
