The Right Thing (1)
'Never let loyalty and leave you!' Proverbs 3:3
If you've ever had to deal with disappointment, cope with being rejected, or experienced the pain of a broken promise, you will understand that loyalty and kindness really matter.
The Bible says, 'Never let loyalty and kindness get away from you! Wear them like a necklace.' That means all the time, in all circumstances, in every situation - not just when you feel like it.
That might be easy to say, but when your friends have deserted you or your boy/girlfriend's just dumped you or your parents go back on their word, it can feel like the end of the world. We don't want to stay loyal and be kind, we want to shout and scream - we want them suffer, to hurt like we're hurting!
Shortly after hearing about the importance of loyalty and kindness, the Bible says, 'Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding' (v.5). God knows that what's good for us doesn't always come natural to us. It's at these times that we need to trust God, believing His way is better than our way.
Frank A. Clark once said, 'Kindness makes a fellow feel good whether it's being done to him or by him.'
If you're struggling today to do the right thing, the loyal thing, the kind thing, ask God to help you, and be '...certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue His work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns' (Philippians 1:6 NLT).
