The Fear (2)
'...The word of the Lord came to Abram ... saying,"Do not be afraid"...' Genesis 15:1
Someone has said that the Bible says 'do not be afraid' 366 times - once for every day of the year, even leap years. But things still scare us, don't they? The fear factor can hit us many times and sometimes more than once a day!
All our fears basically come down to two questions:
1) 'Will God protect me?'
2) 'Is God going to provide everything I need?'
When Abraham got scared, God answered these two questions for him, 'Do not be afraid ... I am your shield, your very great reward.' In the same way, God answers both of our fear questions with a loud 'Yes!' God will protect us, and God will provide all our needs.
Now this doesn't mean you can go leaping off high buildings, shouting, 'The Lord will protect me', expecting God to swoop down and catch you just before impact.
It doesn't mean you can go spending like there's no tomorrow, maxing out a credit card, never looking to get a job and earn a wage, saying, 'God will provide all I need', expecting God to post a cheque through your door covering all expenses.
God gives us common sense and expects us to use it. God didn't create us to live life doing whatever whenever we feel like it; no matter how foolish or careless or life threatening it is! God wants us to live life, trusting, listening to and following Him.
