Staying When You Feel Like Quitting
'Love ... keeps going to the end' 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Did you go to an amazing conference or festival like Soul Survivor, New Day or Spring Harvest? Was the worship tingle-inducing? Did you have a encounter with God that changed your life? Hear teaching that blew your mind? But you look round your own church now and see Aunt Ethel sat in the same pew as always, Bob the organist slowly decaying and a vicar who just doesn't get you. Then it hits you: I'll do church my way. After all, there's teaching on the internet and I'll listen to some proper worship music! I'll see you losers later! But that's not what God wants.
The church is God's plan for you. There is no plan B. The old clich? rings true: 'If you find the perfect church, don't join it, you'll only spoil it.'
Instead of asking what church can do for you, ask what you can do for your church. How about having a chat with Aunt Ethel - she might surprise you. And as for Bob the organist, why not share some ideas for worship. If you're really not happy, talk it through with your youth leader or someone you trust.
Whinging with your mates isn't the way. Leaving a church isn't to be taken lightly. A tree that keeps getting uprooted can't keep growing, it just slowly dies. We all need feeding and watering, and that will happen through your church.
Get involved and ask God for more of Him, so that you can 'keep going to the end' (1 Corinthians 13:7 TM).
