Spiritual Diet
'This is the day the Lord has made' Psalm 118:24
What's your diet like? Do you look after yourself by eating regular, healthy meals? Or do you pig out on junk food most days? Imagine if, when you went to have your tea tonight, you were told, 'This is your last meal until next Monday!' How would you feel? Would it make you stuff your face, trying to eat as much as you could in the hope you'll last the week?
Would you start feeling hungry as soon as you finished because you know you can't have any more food for six more days? Your week would begin feeling bloated, followed by a blinding headache and by Wednesday, hunger pains would start, lasting through to your next meal the following Monday.
No one would choose to live on one meal a week - it's ludicrous. We'd become ill and weak, unable to concentrate.
Did you ever stop and think that what you would never tolerate for your body is often the 'standard fare' for your spirit? A Sunday 'feast' of Bible study, prayer and worship followed by six days of 'famine'. Psalm 118 says, 'This is the day the Lord has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it.'
That means every day we're meant to be praising God, thanking Him - after all it's only because of His great power that this day is here at all. Check up on your own spiritual diet! Is it properly balanced, with proper amounts of prayer, praise and Bible study every day?
