'Stop quarrelling with God! ... agree with Him, you will have peace' Job 22:21
When life goes pear shaped do you become a disgruntled wreck or are you like the missionary Paul - sorted? He wrote: 'I have learned how to be content with whatever I have ... I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength' (Phil. 4:11-12 NLT).
Paul knew how difficult life can get. Some situations can bring up a whole host of negative emotions in us. It can be hard to know how to handle the devastation of disappointment and we can go into destruction mode, lashing out at anyone and anything. Little grumpy grumbles can grow into massive malfunctions if we don't choose to learn, like Paul, to be content in every situation.
There's another guy in the Bible called Job: his world went from riches to rags almost overnight. He went from having it all to being destitute. But in the end, he learned you can genuinely trust in the goodness of God even in the midst of great pain.
Both Paul and Job understood how unfair and tough life can be sometimes, but they learnt that the secret was not how much money you make or how famous you become, but being fully reliant on God and trusting Him no matter what is happening around you. If they can learn it, so can we.
