'Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with [God]' Genesis 35:14

Do you like getting your holiday snaps out to remember the good times you've had while away from home? It's great to look back and remember, especially when it's one of those 'miserable Monday' type days.

Looking back, remembering good times can really cheer us up - laughing at the clothes we used to wear; seeing the funny faces we pulled; remembering all the different places we've been and experiences we've had.

Did you know that the word 'remember' is mentioned well over 200 times in the Bible? It is important to God that we 'remember the days of long ago' (Deut. 32:7).

They didn't have photographs in Bible times so they used other things to help them remember good times.

For example, 'Jacob set up a pillar in the place where He talked with [God]'. 'The people of Reuben and Gad named the altar "Witness," for they said, "It is a witness between us and them that the Lord is our God, too."' (Josh. 22:34 NLT);

'Samuel took a stone ... set it up ... and called [it] ... Ebenezer, saying, '..."Thus far the Lord has helped us"' (1 Sam. 7:12 NKJ). 'Jacob offered a sacrifice to God ... and invited everyone to a ... feast. (Gen. 31:54)

When we're in a spiritual slump it helps us get back on track when we look back and remember all the great things God has done. Remembering God's promises (over 3,000 of them) fills us with hope again. God's promises are like the stars - the darker the night, the brighter they shine.
