Send Revival, Start With Me (2)
'Revive us, and we will call upon Your name' Psalm 80:18
Today we're going to look at some thoughts on preparing yourself for your own personal revival.
First, get frustrated with yourself. When you're smug about your cosy little life, there's no room for change. If you were to take pen and pad to all your short cuts and excuses, how would you match up to the words of Jesus? Allowing God to give you the medical on your thoughts and attitudes is the first step to personal holiness, 'Examine me, God, from head to foot. Order your battery of tests. Make sure I'm fit inside and out' (Ps. 26:2 TM).
Second, put the time in. You wouldn't expect to develop perfect ab's and pec's by exercising your mouth with a 'Sub of the Day', would you? Neither can you expect to develop spiritual muscle by exercising time apart from God. There's always going to be an episode of Eastenders or a new console game fighting for your attention. Switch the thing off and 'turn your face to God so He can wipe away your sins, pour out showers of blessing to refresh you' (Acts 3:19 TM).
Third, put things right: 'In prayer there is a connection between what God does and what you do. You can't get forgiveness from God, for instance, without also forgiving others.' (Matt. 6:14 TM). Lord, send revival - and start with me!
