Seeds and weeds
'An enemy did this.' MATTHEW 13:28
Matthew, chapter 13 contains an eye-opening story that revolves around a scene from a farmer's field. Like most of Jesus' parables it leaves us wondering how we are meant to understand it. Well, one way is that while God is planting wheat (truth) the enemy is planting weeds (lies). The truth and the lies are growing side by side in the same field!
Imagine your life is like that field. Everyday there are loads of people wanting to plant stuff in it; both seeds and weeds! Through TV, magazines, the internet, not to mention your teachers, parents and friends, all sorts of mixed messages are coming your way; truths, half-truths and downright lies!
Thankfully, because you have the Holy Spirit living in you, it is possible to recognise when, 'An enemy did this.' The parable contains a subtle warning too, an encouragement to stay alert: 'While everyone was sleeping, his enemy ...sowed weeds among the wheat' (Matthew 13:25 NIV).
We all know that the only people who talk to you while you're asleep are hypnotists, so wake up before you are conned into doing something you'll regret! Think it's no big deal? One degree off course may seem harmless enough, but stay on that track and you'll soon end up a long, long way from where God wants you to be.
