'Peter walked on the water to Jesus' Matthew 14:29
How boring would it be to go to Alton Towers or Thorpe Park and not go on any of the rollercoasters? The whole point of going is to scare yourself senseless on the excited thrill of the rides! As a fairground traveller you may have to stand in a queue for hours before climbing aboard the ride of a lifetime, but how buzzin' are you when it's all over? You start out clinging on for dear life but you get such a rush you want to go again. It's not long before you're riding the coaster arms in the air to get that extra buzz!
Peter's fairground was Lake Galilee; the boat the theme park; the water the ride. He had to get out of the boat and step on to the water to experience the thrill of doing the impossible with God. It was a daring act. It took guts, trust, faith.
Jesus is inviting you to go on the adventure of a lifetime. What will you choose - the water, or the boat? Are you going to play it safe and fit in with everyone else or are you going to step out in faith, ride the waves, and be an extreme disciple of Jesus?
We only get one life. Let's live it like Peter with an enormous spirit of adventure and risk and let's see God do the impossible with us. Jesus says, 'What is impossible with men is possible with God' (Luke 18:27).
