Respect The Architect
'Pray for ... all who have authority' 1 Timothy 2:2
Maybe your granddad was right when he said, 'Kids of today - they've got no respect!' We've no respect for the Government: 'This Prime Minister is running the country into the ground...' We've no respect for the Police: 'They should be out catching real criminals!' And we've no respect for the older generation: 'You old codger, hurry up will ya?!'
First Timothy reminds us to respect the architect: 'Pray for ... all who have authority'. It's easy to jump on the media bandwagon and slate all those in Downing Street but not quite so easy to humble yourself and pray for their strength of character.
And for the Police - maybe instead of tut-tutting when you hear of an unsolved crime, pray for discernment, thanking God that we're not a lawless nation. As for older people, well some cultures have it sussed when the oldest in the community are afforded their rightful place at the top of the pecking order.
It pleases God when we pray for those in authority. When our prayers allow God to influence the influencers of our world it has to be win/win right?
James 1:5 says, 'If you need wisdom, ask God ... and He will give it to you' (NLT). Don't we want our leaders to have the wisdom of God? Well then, call out to God for them. Our world is plagued with war, economic crises, trafficking, terrorism - our leaders need the advice of God more than the moaning of men.
