Renovation Work (2)

''And He ... said, "Behold, I make all things new"'' Revelation 21:5

Another classic mistake Keith and Sonia (see yesterday's reading) are going to make with their property development is forgetting the original purpose of the project: to make money.

Sonia will blow half the budget on a set of Edwardian taps because she simply adores the way they curve like a swan's neck. The experts will remind her that her expense will be subtracted from her profit. But by now Sonia is more interested in period plumbing!

What can we learn from this when renovating our own lives? Purpose. Ephesians 1:11 reminds us, 'It's in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are living for.

Long before we first heard of Christ and got our hopes up, he had his eye on us, had designs on us for glorious living, part of the overall purpose he is working out in everything and everyone' (TM).

Like Sonia, it's all too easy to veer off-project and forget your original purpose. You weren't placed on this earth to get a good job or make money or become famous. You are on assignment here on this earth - your purpose, to reflect the beauty of God through your relationship with Him.

Everything else merely subtracts from your profit. Don't blow your budget on secondary stuff, stockpile treasure in heaven instead. Remind yourself today, I'm here on this earth to know and make known God. My purpose finds meaning through God.
