Old School Rules
'Christ has set us free' Galatians 5:1
Moses has got so much to answer for!
First there were voices from smouldering shrubbery, then there came frogs and locusts on the weather report and before long there was a whole set of instructions... The ten commandments arrived on tablets of stone but Moses cracked the first set in a rage, so God carved some more - the trouble is nobody's cracked them since.
All these rules and regulations seemed to have a funny way of highlighting how far we as people had missed the mark. For all of us yearners who've slathered in envy over next door's new car, mobile phone or sheer good looks, there's a rule about 'Do not covet'.
For all of us lads who've daydreamed about ten minutes in the Girls Aloud dressing room, there's a rule about 'No lusting'. And for all us bezzy mates who've dared to utter those immortal words, 'No, your bum doesn't look big in that!' there's a rule about 'Quit with the lies'.
All in all, the standard is so high we'd be doing pretty darn well if we managed to peel ourselves out of bed without breaking one of those Moses rules. If God depended on us keeping every letter of His law we'd have no chance.
Thankfully, God knows that we'll never live up to perfect standards so He sent His Son Jesus to make us right with him. Now the only rule is 'trust in Him'.
