Peace of mind
'He restores my soul [peace of mind]' Psalm 23:3
Mignon McLaughlin wrote 'Love looks forward, hate looks back and anxiety has eyes all over its head'. Maybe, you know that feeling - you've lost your peace of mind and you're desperately looking for it in all kinds of places. You look to other people for a bit of advice. You look to the internet for information. You look to your doctor for medicine. You look to books and magazines for wisdom. You look for hidden clues and meanings in songs. You look at your 3am bedroom ceiling in hope of new solutions
True, some of these things have merit in them, but ultimately the only place to look for peace of mind is to God. A lesson in agriculture backs this up. When a storm comes, sheep lose their minds. When a predator comes, sheep lose their mind. When they're forced to move to unfamiliar territory, sheep lose their mind. The only way they can handle such times is by staying close to their shepherd.
What's that about Jesus being the Good Shepherd and us being His sheep? When life's storms rage, you need to stay close to Jesus; it's the only way you won't lose your mind. Jesus says to you, 'I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world' (John 16:33 TM).
