'I require your ... firstfruits' Ezekiel 20:40
Jesus must've been a top story teller - why else would crowds hang on His every word? He could've turned the stories into a five-book publishing contract, sold the rights to Hollywood and made more cash than JK Rowling. Or perhaps He would've been more suited to medical school; after all He had a good eye for identifying diseases and then putting them right. He could've lived a comfortable life on a doctor's salary. He could've stuck with carpentry, making fitted wardrobes and chest of drawers on the side.
Jesus didn't ask God to bless His comfortable middle class agenda. He sought God's agenda: 'I always do what pleases Him' (John 8:29 NIV).
Can you think of any story where Jesus seems stressed out and confused? Nope. That's because He daily sought out God's plan and stuck to it, without swerving left or right.
Feeling pulled in 101 different directions right now? Ask God for His one direction. Jesus rose early in the morning to give God the first part of each day. So often we give God the scraps of our day, barely able to concentrate or keep our eyes open, yet we expect to be able to listen. God requires your first-fruits. If rivalling the rooster is not your thing, then choose a time of day that is. When your brain is best in gear, accelerate towards God's direction.
