Not of this planet
'I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.' Psalm 23:6
Normally when someone describes you 'not of this planet' they either mean you're 'away with the fairies' or facially you resemble 'life on Mars'.
As a Christian, though, it's a compliment. The Bible gives us an impression that earth is not home - it's like we're aliens on another planet. David wrote, 'I am but a foreigner on earth' (Ps. 119:19). Peter writes, 'If you call God your father, live your time as temporary residents on earth' (1 Pet. 1:17). He goes on to say, 'Friends, this world is not your home, so don't make yourselves cosy in it.
Don't indulge your ego at the expense of your soul' (1 Pet 2:11 TM). Are we really green-faced, three eyed beings with antennae for ears, or is Peter getting at something else? Look at today's verse: 'I will dwell in the house of The Lord forever', or in other words, heaven is your home. So make heaven your destination.
Don't make life an amusement park for your own benefit - you're living and breathing for more than just being entertained, amused and catered to.
Forget the pursuit of happiness; get the pursuit of godliness. 'Lord remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered, and that my life is fleeting away' (Ps. 39:4 NLT).
Live like a citizen of heaven, an alien to this world. For 'We are Christ's ambassadors' (2 Cor. 5:20 NLT).
