Move It!
'...Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on' Exodus 14:15
Imagine you have been given the biggest, most important job of your life so far. Overwhelmed, you're not convinced you can do it. But remembering Philippians 4:13, 'I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength', you drum up confidence from the bottom of your boots, and give it a go.
Unbelievably everything goes great - everybody's well impressed, you're well liked, the 'man of the moment'... until something changes, and problems and difficulties start firing at you from all directions. Those who sung your praises are now criticising, doubting and blaming you at every opportunity. You wish you'd never started out. Welcome to the world of Moses!
Things started off terrific for old Moses, once he got over himself and agreed to follow God, leading three million refugees out of Egypt. But then they find themselves trapped, with Pharaoh's crack chariot division hard on their heels, towards a seemingly inescapable dead end.
They turn on Moses: 'You promised us freedom and you've brought us to 'Loserville'; it's people like you that give scum a bad name.' Their complaining stopped Moses in his tracks, but God said, 'Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on'. So Moses kept moving forward and saw God at work in his life.
God parted a whole sea, leading millions to safety, and stopped the enemy advancing. Don't stop and listen to cynics, worry-heads, doubters and fear stirrers! Ask God for directions, and keep moving.
