More Than Conquerors (2)
'Thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ...' 2 Corinthians 2:14
Siblings! One minute you're laughing and joking, the next they're ripping your hair out. For a while you make up and everything's fine, but then they take it one step too far and suddenly blurt out the most unkind, hurtful, painful thing you've ever heard: '...You're not getting any of our family inheritance - you're the son of another woman' (Judges. 11:2).
Whoa! This was exactly how it was for Jephthah. And what they'd said was true. He was the son of a prostitute. So they kicked him out of the family home, robbed him of his rightful inheritance only to come crawling back to him years later, asking for his help when they were in a pickle. The cheek of it!
But he didn't tell them to take a running jump. Instead, he swallowed his pride, trained up an army, defeated Israel's enemies and even gets a mention in the Faith Hall of Fame found in Hebrews 11, rubbing shoulders with Samson and David!
But how did he do it? Well, he didn't let his past define his future. He overcame the hurt inflicted by those who were supposed to love him and seized his chance to make a difference.
You are more than the product of your environment. Leave yesterday where it belongs - in the past. 'This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!' (2 Corinthians. 5:17 NLT). Live in the new and say 'Auf Wiedersehen' to the old.
