MAKE THE MOST OF IT
'If [your city] prospers, you too will prosper' Jeremiah 29:7
God cares about your home - not just the building where your family is, but the wider community you're in, right now. Maybe you don't enjoy the place you're living in, but that doesn't mean God has written off your chances of putting down roots and making the most of it. You might have heard people saying things like 'God wants me to move here!' or, 'God wants me to move there!', whether it's to a sunny coastal town, or a city full of opportunities and people.
That's great. Really. God does work like that. But His main concern is that you live fully, in whatever place you are, right at this moment. That won't change your living situation, but it will change how your living situation affects you. Around 590BC many people were taken from Jerusalem to be slaves in Babylon. It was a horrendous situation.
Miles away from home comforts, God spoke to them through a guy called Jeremiah, telling them to, 'change your attitude, dig in and make the best of it ... pray for peace and prosperity where you live, because when it prospers, you will prosper.' (Paraphrasing Jeremiah 29: 5-7) God cares about our homes; and when we do our bit to build for His Kingdom there, He says things will change for the better. What a promise! The instruction we're given in the Bible is also a beautiful picture: 'Do everything without grumbling or arguing ... shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life' (Philippians 2:14-16 NIV).
What now? Organise a prayer walk where you live. Pray for good things to happen in your homes and neighbourhood as you walk together.
