Looking forward to death

'Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death ...' Psalm 23:4

A bit of a morbid thought, but imagine the doc tells you that you've just 24 hours to live. What do you do? Make your way to the nearest hotty; snog their tonsils off and parade them down the gangway of a Las Vegas chapel? ?

Do you hang out at the local alcopops factory with a straw, draining every last drop of 'pick-me-up' until you pass out (or need a kebab - whichever comes first)?

Do you pick a playlist of tracks to accompany your coffin down the aisle? Do you get a second opinion from another doc? Do you update Facebook telling everyone you love them and you'll miss them?

The last thing you'd want to do is look forward to the day of death, right? But bizarrely enough, a Christian can look forward to death. We don't have to be scared even though we will all 'walk through the valley of the shadow of death'. Why? Because death is not the end; it's only the beginning.

'What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ's sin-conquering death, we also get included in His life saving resurrection. We know that when Jesus was raised from the dead it was the signal of the end of death-as-the-end. Never again will death have the last word' (Rom. 6:8-9 TM). If the shadow of death seems ghostly dark, please know that you won't be alone for the journey. Jesus will take your hand and lead you home.
