Just Enough
''...Each family had just what it needed'' Exodus 16:18
Each day brought the same worry, the same temptation: What if God doesn't provide tomorrow? What if we wake up in the morning and there isn't a plate of manna in sight? Isn't it best we store a little away in the fridge tonight just in case tomorrow the cupboard is bare?
Whenever the Israelites disobeyed the commandment from God and hoarded the stuff, maggots turned up, rats nibbled at it, or the manna would simply turn a shade of early penicillin. God provided just enough for one day at a time: 'Everyone had just enough.
Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered ... a little had enough. Each family had just what it needed.' Are you stuck out in your own wilderness? Do you worry that God might not turn up tomorrow? Are you tempted to solve your own problems, completely bypassing God in the process? Stay strong.
When you're going through a 'just enough' season God is teaching you to trust Him on a daily basis. Heck, sometimes it can seem like an hourly basis. He's allowing you to taste this verse for real: '...His mercies ... are new every morning...' (Lamentations 3:22-23 NCV).
God never lets us gather tomorrow's manna today. Philippians 4:19 says He will 'supply all your need according to His riches in glory'. God wants you to rely on the Giver not the gift, to trust Him with your needs, and to learn that He always brings good out of bad situations.
