How's Your Relationship with God? (3)

The third aspect of the relationship between Christ and the Father is obedience. Before you flick to the adverts, assuming this is going to be a bit heavy, hang on two ticks!
Firstly, remember that God is love and that it's because of His awesome love for each one of us that He wants our best. God's not trying to cramp your style, He's looking to protect you.
When you make Jesus Lord, you give up three basic rights your ego may have an issue with:
1) What it will cost you. It cost Jesus everything, namely his life.
2) Where it will take you. Jesus came from the beauty of heaven to the rags of this world for us.
3) The amount which it will change you.
Jesus went through separation from his Father to take on our wrongs on the cross. Jesus said, 'I judge only as I hear, and my judgement is just, for I seek not to please myself but Him who sent me' (John 5:30 NIV).
Notice the bit that says, 'as I hear'. When you've heard from God, you've heard from God. End of. It's time to get with the programme - God's programme! Don't go seeking after security, seek after God.
'In all your ways submit to Him and He will make your paths straight' (Proverbs 3:6). Obedience is a sadly underrated virtue in our self-seeking culture. But when you walk in obedience, God's best is what you'll get. Don't settle for anything less.
