How's Your Relationship with God? (1)
'...I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will' John 5:30
The relationship Jesus had with his Father is the kind of relationship that he wants you to have with him. Jesus modelled it perfectly, and today we'll consider one aspect of that relationship: intimacy.
Some people might go all red at the mention of the word - it could conjure up all sorts of sensual imagery, but ultimately it simply means 'closeness'.
Jesus said, 'The Father loves the Son and shows him everything He is doing...' (John 5:20 NLT). Now I might be able to reel off a few facts about Prince William, but I don't really know how he thinks, what makes him tick, what disappoints him. It's the same with our relationship with God.
How close are you to God right now? Do you have a quick flick through Word 4U 2Day and then it's straight on with 'Agenda Self'?
Are you close enough to know when you've said or done something that's saddened God? Are you close enough to feel the warmth of His presence?
'Come near to God and God will come near to you' (James - 4:8) never fails to be true. The truth is that you are as close to God as you desire to be, decide to be, and discipline yourself to be.
So ask yourself, what are you desiring? God's Word or whatever's on TV? God's house or your mate's house? God's will or your own will? God is a gentleman - He won't force Himself on anyone, and He'll only come as close as you let Him.
