Health Warning
'Turn [me] back to You, O Lord, and will be restored' Lamentations 5:21
Lamentations is probably the saddest book in the Bible - the story of a people who refuse to change - and who pay the price in suffering. When we refuse to turn away from the things that God hates, there are always consequences.
Any bad habit you cannot break, or that you refuse to break, is a habit that has the power to break you. It's not what you go through in life that messes you up; it's what you keep going back to!
Today it's time to give yourself a 'habit health check'. How many times have you said, 'I'm not going to look at it, I'm not going to listen to it, I'm not going to do it again' only to go out and do it over and over again?
Is your appetite so out of control you're heading for a damaging eating disorder, critical drink problem, drugs overdose, or fatal self-harming? Do you struggle with compulsions that bring moments of pleasure followed by days of regret and disappointment? Don't feel down and defeated!
The book of Lamentations brings hope for us all. In the face of death and destruction, with life falling apart at the seams, Jeremiah turns tragedy into triumph, eventually crying out to God 'How great your faithfulness!' (v. 23) He knew with God there is always hope because He can give us the power to change.
Pray: 'Turn [me] back to You, O Lord, and will be restored.' Break those bad habits for good!
