'I will heal your wounds' Jeremiah 30:17
The Great Wall of China is thought to stretch over 5,500 miles. Built originally to keep out the threat of invaders, that's a whole lot of protection! Some of us can rival the Great Wall's scale and strength by the invisible barriers we build to keep others out.
We think if we don't let anybody in we'll be safe from heartbreak. But in the process of barricading others out, we fence ourselves in, creating a prison cell for our hearts. Rather than rely on our own emotional tactics to keep our hearts a disaster-free zone, why not allow the Lord to be our protector? Now God doesn't promise we'll never get hurt but He does guarantee healing.
Jeremiah 30:17 says, 'For I will restore health to you, and I will heal your wounds, says the Lord'. Following Jesus means following love, because 'God is love'. Whenever we enter the territory of love we expose our hearts to potential hurt. God put His heart up for pain when He gave up His Son in sacrificial death. 1 John 4:21 tells us that 'Loving God includes loving people. You've got to love both' (TM).
Are you ready to be susceptible to pain? Now is the time to start removing brick-by-brick the wall you've constructed to keep others out. Yes, you'll feel vulnerable but God is with you. God your perfect builder will take great care putting you back together.
