'Led by the Spirit of God...' Romans 8:14
Have you ever had an inkling that God was asking you to do something but you make the fatal error of broadcasting it? Suddenly, everybody feels like they have to have their ten pence worth. Mum says one thing, your mates say another, and then there's the holy huddle with their 'I've got a word from God...' which roughly translates as 'I know exactly what you should do, but I'm going to quote a Bible verse so that you can't answer back'.
It's always a good idea to test an inkling with people who have a good track record for godly wisdom, but when all's said and done, it's you that has to hear from God about your own life. If you're not careful you can be pulled in all sorts of directions and end up absolutely nowhere.
'God is fair and just. He corrects the misdirected, sends them in the right direction' (Ps. 25:8 TM). So how can you make sure where God is leading? Honest prayer. God doesn't get cross when we present our confusion to Him.
Hold your hands up and speak what's on your heart, for example, 'God, I'm confused right now. I think I'm hearing you but I need to make sure. Please make it clear to me - what should I do?' When we spend enough time listening, soon a peace will silence all the other voices and you'll gain the confidence to step out.
