Following or hiding?
'They...recognised them as men who had been with Jesus' Acts 4:13
It's easy to spot a true football fan. They're not put off by others' lack of interest in the sport and loyally support a specific team, wearing their shirt with pride for everyone to see. They know when and who their team is playing and watch as many of the matches as they can. They sing the supporters' songs loudly and know all the team and the manager by name. They stick by them, win or lose.
Everyone around them recognises that they are a football fan and can easily tell what team they support. They never try to hide it, in fact they don't shut up about it and no amount of bribery and corruption can persuade them to do otherwise. Their words and actions say it all.
In Acts 4 we can read about Peter and John - they weren't footy followers but they were Jesus followers. Everything they did and said let everyone around them know, without question, that they were Christians.
Even when they got locked up and threatened, they never gave up on Jesus, even when they were warned that 'they were on no account ever again to speak or teach in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John spoke right back, "... there's no question - we can't keep quiet about what we've seen and heard." What about you? Are you so sold out for Jesus that everyone you meet knows by your words and actions who you follow? Can they tell you're with Jesus?
