Fearless (1)
'Elijah was afraid and fled for his life' 1 Kings 19:3
Read up on the dude Elijah, and you'll discover he led an incredible life for God: He was a prophet, meaning God gave him the ability to tell the future (eg 1 Kgs 17); he was given supernatural running strength that would have had Linford Christie eating his dust (1 Kgs 18:46); he was the first recorded person in the Bible to raise someone from the dead (1 Kgs 17:22); he divided a river with his coat (2 Kgs 2:8); he once braved the odds of 450 to 1 challenging the prophets of Baal to prove that his God was more powerful than theirs - and of course he won (1 Kgs 18:22-24).
These are just a few highlights in the life of Elijah, and you can imagine him as a fearless, confident, impressive guy 100% of the time. But truth is, even Elijah had times when he let fear rule. Once, when threatened by a queen, 'Elijah was afraid and fled for his life'.
Words can have a powerful effect on us and if we're not careful, just like Elijah we can become gripped with fear, thrown into depression, feeling totally intimidated and worthless. Don't listen to the voice of fear; listen to the voice of God. He will make you fearless. 2 Timothy 1:7 says, 'God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline' (NLT).
