'...Carefully build yourselves up in this most holy faith.' Jude 1:20
STDs - we know them as sexually transmitted diseases, infections that are most often but not exclusively spread by sexual intercourse. They are among the most common contagious disease. But there's another kind of 'STD' that exists in the church: Spiritually Transmitted Diseases. Just like any infection, they are highly contagious, quickly spread and can damage our lives considerably if not treated.
This kind of STD waters down God's words and weakens; bringing doubts, wrong thought patterns and a misguided way to live. We need to avoid catching them and spreading them. Jude, the brother of James (and possibly the brother of Jesus) was so bothered about Spiritually Transmitted Diseases that he wrote a fiery letter to the church, telling them to watch out for them and fight against them.
The danger is very real: there are false teachers and deceivers out there. They live pleasing themselves and encourage others to do the same. We need to live differently, Jude says: 'But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit... In this way, you will keep yourselves safe in God's love.'
Don't rely solely on what others say about the Bible, discover it for yourself. Let's encourage each other to live right and keep STDs out of the church.
