Elijah (1)
'There is the sound ... of rain' 1 Kings 18:41
So is it going to be sunglasses and suntan weather today or is it going to be cagoule and umbrella time? The weathermen say one thing, the weather itself says another. Sometimes, when life's getting too hot we need to shut out the weather reports and focus on God - like Elijah did.
We join our prophet on the back of an impressive 'calling fire down from heaven' miracle. After being a part of supernatural stuff of the year, suddenly Elijah was plonked straight into famine with every speck of human resource dried up. So what does he do? 'He bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees' (1 Kgs. 18:42 NKJ). Good move. Elijah shuts out his surroundings, focuses on God, and keeps praying for an answer.
The answer comes as 'a sound of abundance of rain'. There's that contrasting weather report again: Elijah sees famine and dry land, but his spirit senses rain. Even before a drop falls, Elijah senses the solution to drought - a downpour of rain. There's an important lesson here.
When God speaks to your spirit He may go against what circumstances and situations are saying. Your age may be saying, 'you're too young', your bank might be saying, 'you've not got enough money', your mates might laugh, 'as if!' But if God is asking you to do something, follow Elijah - shut out the world and focus on God.
