Courage Under Fire (2)
'Be strong and of good courage...' Joshua 1:6
Forty years. Forty years we've trekked across desert to get here. Some of us have lost fathers, mothers, children out there.
Some days we felt like giving up. 'Take us now, Lord, take us here in the wilderness', some had cried. 'Why have you led us to our death out here thousands of miles from any sign of living life? At least back home we had cucumbers and water' Yes, some of our fathers had called slavery 'home', when complaining to our old leader, Moses.
But at least Moses had signs: the angel of death, the parting of the sea, the water from the rock. This new guy Joshua hasn't shown us anything. How do we know God is with him? We're not about to throw forty years of near death down the drain, just to meet our end at the hands of Joshua.
What's the plan, Joshua? What's your next move? All the Jews are watching Joshua. He needs to be strong, he needs to show courage. He needs to role model strength and belief now. God has told him to 'be strong and of good courage'. His ability to demonstrate faith in the face of impossible odds needs to be seen by the Jews. His actions will inspire others courage.
What about you? In what tough areas could you inspire others to be strong? What circumstances could you show others that having faith really makes a difference? Like Joshua, take the lead, you never know who could be watching.
