'Unless the LORD builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted...' Psalms 127:1
The God followers in Jeremiah's day thought that they could live however they wanted. With their egotistical, I'm the boss of me attitude, they thought God would never let them suffer the consequences of their actions. In fact, they thought they were untouchable because God was on their side!
But in truth, they ignored God and never listened to Him. To them everything else was more important. Jeremiah cried his eyes out when he realised this. He broke down, seeing just how bad this attitude truly was.
What's important to you? What things have you achieved that you're most proud of? Do you know there is one thing that God wants you to revel in? Better than friendship, romance, perfect health, or even this week's iPhone? It's your relationship with Him.
In Jeremiah 9:23-24 God says, 'Don't let the wise brag of their wisdom. Don't let heroes brag of their exploits. Don't let the rich brag of their riches. If you brag, brag of this and this only: That you understand and know me. I'm God, and I act in loyal love. I do what's right and set things right and fair, and delight in those who do the same things. These are my trademarks.'
(TM) What now? Read John 5:24 and think about your relationship with Jesus. Do you talk it up - brag about it? If not, why not?
