'Keep your [life] free from the love of money' Hebrews 13:5
Wanna scare your careers adviser? Tell them you want to be a poet or a sleigh-rider or a Sudoku designer. Watch them flap as they say, 'Right ... but what about something to fall back on?' You see there isn't much money in poetry and jobs in Sudoku construction are few and far between.
Here's the thing though, why not follow your heart rather than the dollar? It's true we all need money to survive but money isn't the be-all of life. Hebrews 13:5 tells us to chillax NO on this score: 'Don't be obsessed with getting more ... be relaxed with what you have.
Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you."' (TM) Don't let finance dictate your future. People get all twisted up in knots, staying awake at night, stewing over money. It's as if money will solve all their problems. Cash is a mixed blessing because it gives us independence. Being self-sufficient means we no longer need God to provide, which in turn means we no longer automatically go to God for help, which in turns means we miss out on relationship with God as our provider.
Yesterday's devotional looked at you being made for a mission. That's the point: keep your focus on your mission, not your wallet. Billy Graham said, 'If a person gets his attitude toward money straight, it will help straighten out almost every other area of his life.' So 'Keep your [life] free from the love of money'.
