Bring Out The Best In Others (3)
'Be strong and courageous' Deuteronomy 31:6
Whether you love Manchester United, can't stand Manchester United or have never even heard of Manchester United (where have you been?), it's hard to deny that Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the best man managers around. Football players like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney all fulfilled their potential thanks to the guidance and support of this gifted manager.
Losing just doesn't seem to be part of these guys' vocabulary! Manchester United would not be anywhere near as successful if they weren't all encouraging each other on a daily basis on the training pitch, building each other up and strengthening their attitudes as well as their leg muscles.
To be really effective, our encouragement of others should be immediate, specific and genuine. How good are we at spotting what people do well?
We're all made in God's image yet we all have a different package of giftings unique to us, totally perfect for us. Other people's points of view can change whole situations. It's all well and good thinking positive things about something or someone, but it's only when we open our mouths and communicate those positive observations that your neighbour can be built up and encouraged.
As you go through the day, how about monitoring what comes out of that mouth of yours? It's a very powerful thing. Are you a 'gloom and doom' bringer or a Kingdom bringer? 'Let everything you say be helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them' (Eph. 4:29 NLT).
