Bless this house
'In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed' Genesis 12:3
In order to bless all the families of the earth, Abraham had to start with his own family. After all, how could he be good news to the earth if he was bad news in his own home? Equally, if we want to sail the seven seas with the good news of Jesus; shouldn't we be getting it right in our own school, our own neighbourhood; our own home first?
For example, if we're a 24/7 walking mood machine with our own Mum, how are we going to be with a hostile neighbour in some far flung anti-Christian desert land? Matthew 25:23 says this, 'You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities'(NLT).
If you can be a blessing in your small beginnings, you can be trusted for greater blessings later. And there's no time like the present to start practicing.
So you want to be Billy Graham? Start by telling your mum what you learned at church this week. So you want to work with the street children of Mumbai? Start by babysitting for your next door neighbour's annoying kids. So you want to be Tim Hughes? Start by worshipping with your everyday living before picking up a guitar. Be faithful in the small and be faithful with the many. 'There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord' (1 Cor. 12:5 NLT).
