Be The Right Stuff
'To Philemon our beloved friend and fellow labourer' Philemon 1:1
Paul called Philemon 'Our beloved friend and fellow labourer'. Obviously Paul had found a guy with the right stuff. How do you become 'the right stuff'?
First, have the right frame of mind. Life has a funny habit of throwing mud against your window and seeing what sticks. Well refuse to become a prisoner of circumstances. You can't control what happens to you but you can control how you react. 'Don't fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray.
Let petitions and praise shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God's wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down' (Philippians 4:6 TM).
Second, accept forgiveness. Don't let past failures haunt you. Don't rummage around your old sin-bin looking for excuses for failure. Admit them. Learn from them. And move on. 'Your sins are forgiven in Jesus' name' (1 John 2:12 TM).
Third, be grateful. The day is too short to waste hours of it in self-pity, worry or boredom. This is the day that the Lord has made. Enjoy it like a child, use it to break records and write history.
When tomorrow comes, today will be finito forever. So whilst it's still alive use it for loving, living and giving to God. 'Day and night I'll stick with God. I've got a good thing going and I'm not letting go. I'm happy from the inside out - and from the outside in, I'm firmly formed' (Ps. 16: 8-9 TM).
