'Remove from our lives anything that would get in the way' Hebrews 12:1
Leave a boiled sweet in your pocket and it's amazing what it will pick up. It may go in looking scrummylicious but guaranteed it will come out looking more like something from outer space than from the corner shop as its sugary coating latches on to all bits of fluff and manky particles down there. It's in no fit state to deliver you its sugary treat any more. Too much fluff has gotten in the way - it's carrying extra baggage.
Just like the unsuspecting boiled sweet, we too can get thrown into messy situations that leave us carrying extra baggage. A relationship ends and you're left with baggage, carrying around the belief that you're not pretty enough, you're a bad kisser, unlovable.
At school you get bullied and you're left with baggage, maybe self-harming to try and mask the pain. Your parents always compare you to your brother or sister and you're left with baggage; carrying around a never-good-enough complex.
You believe the magazine lies that tell you your body isn't perfect and you're left with baggage, carrying around an eating disorder.
With God there is no baggage allowance. He says we need to, 'remove from our lives anything that would get in the way and the sin that so easily holds us back.' There is no need for us to go any further carrying stuff we don't need, collecting fluff that holds us back, baggage that weighs us down.
