But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. James 3:17 NKJV
In today’s scripture passage, the apostle James makes a stark contrast between godly wisdom, which he calls “wisdom that comes from heaven,” and worldly wisdom, which he calls “earthly, unspiritual, demonic” (James 3:15).
This wisdom from above produces results very similar to what the apostle Paul called the “fruit of the Spirit”: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
James says that wisdom from heaven is marked by peacefulness, gentleness, consideration for the good of others, and mercy. It is pure in its motivation and filled with love for God and for others.
You’ll find yourself living unshakably as you grow and mature in wisdom from heaven. You can start today by asking God to give you the kind of wisdom that helps you to live in a way that glorifies Him, brings you closer to Him, and helps you be a blessing to those He has placed in your life.
Prayer: Lord, the wisdom that comes from You is far and away higher and better than the world’s wisdom. May I live unshakably in Your wisdom today and every day.
