Why doesn't God intervene to end suffering?

Nobody mentioning Job? The guy that God made a bet with the devil that Job would stay faithful? Then God totally destroyed this guy’s life for a sick bet with Satan? Best not mention that story. It’s a little harder to explain the reasoning behind that one. It is a little odd isn’t it? Or no? Sure he got twice than what he had before but what was the point of the whole bet? I thought God did not tempt people. And the condescending tone God has when Job asked why?? Well you don’t know what the deer does in the woods, you do not know the number of hairs on your head.
