We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, whether they slander us or praise us. We are honest, but they call us impostors. Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything. 2 Corinthians 6:8, 10
Paul didn’t serve God for the honor and praise of men. He didn’t expect to have a life free from pain and suffering. He certainly didn’t own many possessions or boast of riches as a way of supposedly confirming God’s blessing in his life.
Some people expect to be highly regarded and respected for following Jesus, for advocating for God’s justice on earth, or for holding others accountable. Those who have such hopes will surely be disappointed sooner rather than later.
You have so much to gain by serving God, but that gain will hardly look like the praise and esteem of the masses, let alone significant wealth and prosperity. The gain that no man can touch in your life is the joy of God and the comfort of His presence.
Whether you are wealthy or poor, healthy or sick, you can share this joy with others freely without reservation or limit.
Prayer: Jesus, help me seek You and Your spiritual riches so that I will never let the disregard of others pull me away from my calling to share You with others.
