I know to some this question may seem ludicrous and the answer obvious but I think that many go to church out of obligation so this thread is to find out why.

Here is a post I made a while back, I think its an excellent explanation of why I go, and most people go.

http://www.talkjesus.com/get-saved-now/24451-4-reasons-church-membership.html

I go to be edified in the Word, enjoy unison with the local body of Christ, fellowship, and entertainment with friends.

Many times I've gone to church and the pastor has spoken things that just struck my heart right as if GOD were speaking directly to me. I was overcome with the Holy Spirit and blessed to even have that happen. This also happened numerous times after bible study classes which helped me grow drastically in such a short period of time.

Essential To My Calling

I fellowship because I am, not only, part of the Body of Christ, but I am in the Ministry of Helps. When I go, I am fed and refreshed by worshipping and learning with others. And, I get to use gifts to work with and minister to those that are doing things IN GOD'S NAME FOR HIS GLORY AS THEY LIFT UP JESUS AND OBEY THE GREAT COMMISSION!

Hello all,

Thought i'd share what our morning service was about.

W.I.F.E.

We should go to church to,
1. Worship our awesome Creator
2. For Instruction
3. For Fellowship
4. To learn to Evangelise

Blessings to us all in Jesus name

I too Go to church to be in the presence of our Lord, fellowship with true believers, and study his word, so that I might be fully equipped to reach out to a lost, and dying world.

If not in preaching, helping to send those who can, and being a light to those who touch my life here at home.

Where two, or three are gathered together in his name, there he is in the midst.
I can think of no better reason than that.

I can agree with the above. Going to church helps me to stay true in my walk with Christ.

When I don't feel like going to church, I remind myself that it is important for me to lend support and encouragement to others by being there.

These are some excellent posts. I go for many reasons but the main one is simply to meet with God. I focus my heart on Him and sometimes I forget everything else going on around me as there is nothing quite like getting immersed in the love of my God. His presence can be overwhelming and when one finds oneself in this union with the Father one is always touched, changed, filled and empowered.

It's already been said in different ways, but I basically go to be around my own kind. There is no where else to go to find like-minded people to fellowship with. Without a stable grouping of Christians, my walk through this life would have been a very lonely one.

I don't know of any Christian Church that doesn't fall under some particular denomination. If this site preaches from the scriptures and gospels of one or all denominations, then the ideas of God and Jesus presented here on this site are of a denominational nature and not from ones own personal relationship with God.

I get the feeling that you think it is impossible for one to have a relationship with God and with Jesus outside of scripture and the Canonical Gospels.

So you think you can learn about Jesus Christ and GOD all-in-all outside Scripture? Care to enlighten me? You've been a member for two days and already you have a opinion on what we teach here? The site is non-denominational. What is taught here? Exactly what the Scripture teaches. Nothing else is acceptable teaching outside Scripture.

I attend a non-denominational church. Just because you don't know of any does not mean they do not exist. This is the 2nd non-denominational church I've been part of, 15 miles apart of each other.

I go to worship, to be around other people who worship, guidance with scripture, and MUSIC.....our church has a great band.

I go to ground myself, to relax, to put life in perspective, and many times to weep.

I go to grow.

Wow, I guess I was wrong, no one even mentioned obligation. So I guess that of those who posted, no one believes that you have to go to church to be obedient. Thats fabulous, things sure must have changed alot since I was a participant years ago. Thanks everyone I think I have enough posts to aid my study.

If I might add this JF, if one is truly in love with Jesus one does all that pleases Him with a joyful heart. Actually ones heart will leap at the thought of doing what brings joy to Him so that obedience is both a pleasure and our nature so to speak.

I agree with you Boanerges, I'm all for obedience to Christ and I believe that most are but I also think that many are very confused about what Christ expects from us. I know many confuse the demands of religious liturgy with the commands of Christ.

Not even if it comes directly through the signs from God I experience every day? Not even through the insights I receive from Him when I personally ask Him for clarity? God does not require me to hold the Bible in my hand while I ask Him, in my own words, for guidance. He answers all my questions. That's right, "questions", not "prayers".

"Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be open to you." There are no exceptions to this rule.

My family claims to be United Baptist but it was never mandatory for me to go to church. This was a blessing from God, as my mind was not forced closed by all the strict rules of conduct enforced by the church, that would guarantee me an eternal seat in hell if I broke them. Instead, I was free to question the true nature of God. I take all my questions directly to the source and receive all my answers directly from the source. There is no 'middle man', only direct communication between myself and God. God only requires that we seek to understand Him.

Through this understanding of my journey toward God and truth, it is my faith that this latter path is the one Jesus lived His example by, and is the path He has laid for us to follow. He also, went into solitude and communicated directly to God without a middle man. Although Jesus was born into the Jewish Tradition, He followed the tradition of His Holy Father and led a life of sprituality.

You still did not clarify what your question has to do with the OP of this thread "why do you go to church"?

And you tell me you can learn about Jesus and GOD outside the Bible, then explain to all of us how you know what is true or not true about GOD outside the Bible. I'm still waiting for your explanation. Of all religions who claim to know some "god", you obviously need the Bible to know the real GOD, the "source" is the Bible because that His Word to us. You cannot find this truth outside Scripture, period.

Your question has nothing to with the OP in the first place anyway.
