But on the other hand we do receive rewards.

Matt 5:11; “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
Matt 5:12; “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you

Matt 6:3; “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
Matt 6:4; so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.

Matt 10:40; He who receives you receives Me, and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.
Matt 10:41; He who receives a prophet in the name of a prophet shall receive a prophet’s reward; and he who receives a righteous man in the name of a righteous man shall receive a righteous man’s reward.

In response to your original question. It is that all of mankind were born with a carnal mind that believes that it is responsible for all that happens to you in life. It does not believe in any
way, shape, or form, that anything else controls it's destiny. All Christians were born with it as well, some have overcome to a point, and can see the control that the Father has over every
aspect of our existence. However; most do not, nor can they, as they have been appointed to be just exactly what they are, just as you and I. I am what I am by the grace of God.
