Why are some deceived ???

2 Timothy 2:25
Correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth,

Seems to me if we want knowledge and truth we need to repent, with out repentance I think we will stay deceived. What say you??

I say the word of God and the Holy Spirit are both infinitely wiser than human wisdom, so that we should take the later with a grain of salt, so yes, without repentance we continue to deceive ourselves at the least and at the most ourselves and others.

Greetings brother

If a person wrongly quotes scripture we have a duty to correct the error, but in a loving manner, the apostle’s advice to Timothy to gently instruct those who oppose, the aim being to win them over rather than create conflict and disputes.

2 Timothy 2:23-26 (NKJV)
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

There are those who follow after empty arguments they would be in need of instruction, regarding both the wrong teaching and the right doctrine.

The aim, should be, to clearly show the error, and let the other person see the wrong, so that they may repent. Paul talks of repentance as a work of God, but this does not mean the offender has not to take responsibility and acknowledging his/her sin.

Right instruction must be the aim, God is a God of mercy ever ready to forgive those who come to Him in Faith.

Repentance implies a change of mind, acknowledging of the Truth, which delivers a person from being in the bondage to the error.

I concur,

but my post is more about why people wrongly quote scripture, or even more why some people follow false teachers ( I should of included more details I am sorry) , like some follow the prosperity gospel like it is true, so to me this is scripture telling us they are deceived because they have not repented, do you think I am not correct in thinking people are deceived because they have not repented?? I have always wondered why and how so many false teachers out there get the followers and this scripture seems to be very simple and to the point.

Greetings brother @Dave M

Often false stuff is ear tickling and pleasing to the carnal mindset.

The truth is avoided, scriptures carefully cherry picked.

And in this bubble of false security......repentance and seeking the truth never happens.

My 18 year old daughter was caught up in the belief that it's okay to be gay and the Lord accepts that......because a university church "that was very nice" taught this.
Then she attended another church where Biblical truth was taught revealing the error she had been believing regarding homosexuality.
Praise the Lord.

Many congregations are being misled.
Many "pastors" are being misled by their organisational church systems.
Many don't even know the need to repent.
A sad reflection of these last days.

We can rejoice though.....knowing that the Lord will only reveal truth if we seek Him

The entrance of Thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
Psalm 119:130

As our dear sister @Fragrant Grace as said.

But also many believe what they want to believe, the devil is at work.

But also many clergy preach what I call cotton wool scripture, pleasing to the ear, tell em what is nice and easy to receive, that keeps them in the pews/seats, keeps the money coming in, keeps the figures to show the bosses.

Then of course we have the ministers who are not born again, but I do feel people do want to believe what they want to believe, and even what others tell them, rather than read scripture themselves. The Gospel according to a mate is very common.

Here we have the following of false teaching.

Strange really when I thing back, I always read the readings before the service, I always followed the readings at the service, even though I then had KJV & Life Application NIV Study Bible, the church read from the RSV Revised standard version. I trusted what I read and listened to see if I felt what was preached was right. That said, I got the cotton wool sermons, taking the OT reading, the NT reading and the Gospel, which carried a theme, but gave the vicar freedom to make a liberal balanced overall sermon. There was no expounding of The Word. Readings were rotated over two years, so parts of John 3 were once every two years, I still remember more talk about Nichodemus than the Jesus verses between the conversation John 3:3,5,7 We must be born-again. Frustrating.

To conclude, there are also people who think the sun shines out of the ministers bottom, they will believe anything they are told.

There are so many who would cry and weep for the wrong reasons if their church building was burned down, 'my' church has gone what will I do? The building (Kuriakon) may be burnt down the church (ekklesia) is still there! Providing they were born again believers that is.

Bless you

Yes, the ekklesia is the real church, that is the church taken up into heaven, to reside with God in His many rooms.

@Beresheet -- some of your theology is messed up -- Not Scriptural. I'm not sure where you get the info that you're sharing.

The 'real truth of God's plan of salvation" 1 Corinthians 15:1-3 tells how to be saved. "Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the Gospel ......by which also you are saved. vs 3 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received; that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, vs 4 and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures," And Romans 10 tells us that belief takes place in our heart and confession is made unto salvation. We will Want to be sharing our faith with others.

God's Word says Nothing about what you are sharing. There will NOT be two people who look like Christ, etc, etc. and that a person will have a choice to make as to which of the two entities are the Real Jesus Christ. Now there Will be the AntiChrist making himself known half-way through the 7 yrs. tribulation. And That person -- will try to require everyone to accept the 666 on either their forehead or hand. No one will be able to buy or sell unless they have that. And God's wrath will be poured down on those who Do accept that mark of the beast = 666.

And you do have a very wrong concept of the 1,000 yr reign of Jesus Christ here on earth. It will be a time of unprecidented peace. Because during those 1,000 yrs. satan will be bound in the Abyss -- won't be able to mess with people.

The knowledge of truth here is Jesus. Knowledge of Jesus. God grants / gives a revelation of Jesus to those who repent 1 Cor 12:3, Matt 16:16-17.

The elect can be deceived by false teachers Matt 24:24. Many good Christians who love Jesus are still caught up in the prosperity message.

Sin is what separates us from God,

SIN is what makes it possible for us to be deceived.

Repentance is the way to the truth.

Repentance is turning from our sin, Repentance is STOP SINNING.

The first message preached in the NT by the first preacher is Repentance.

The Holy Spirit is our teacher.

1 Corinthians 12:3 "Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.

Matt 16:16-17 "Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven."

These are the two verses you included.

The Matt 24 passage Is talking about false teachers. And it says IF Possible -- even the elect. Suggesting that That isn't really possible. Because no one can take born-again believers away from God. Born-again believers Are God's Elect.

Yes, unfortunately , there Is the prosperity message. It gives very false impressions.

I've seen some concern about committing blasphemy against the holy spirit. So far I haven't seen anyone describe an accurate description of that sin until now. Representing ones self as a Christian and teaching another to sin as though it is acceptable to God is unforgivable. This is blasphemy.

@Mart -- purposely misleading a person / people Away from God / salvation would be evil - indeed.

These days are dark / confusing times to be living in.

God's Word is living and powerful.

We need to be in It more and more.

2 Cor 4:4; in whose case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that they might not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

There are of course a lot of "blind" people in the world. But getting them to see who is blinding them is another story.

That's where the Holy Spirit comes into the picture. We share God's Word and the Holy Spirit uses it as He sees fit.

With some people -- a person Can be led to the Gospel unto their salvation -- but ya can't make them accept it. "lead a horse to water but can't make them drink it" as the saying goes.

And why cant we get them to accept Jesus as the savior??

I think because they dont want to admit they are sinners, we are all sinners deserving Hell.

but right here on TJ we have some that say people are good and dont deserve hell even if they dont except Jesus. (Yet Gods word tells us differently)

the one thing every person on this planet has in common is we are all sinner and deserve hell, and that is why we need a savior, for no one is good.

But as @B-A-C points out with scripture the god of this world blinds these people to not even consider themselves bad or even consider they are going to hell, just because they tell a few lies or stole something as a kid, when we are dealing with a Holly perfect God those little sins some of us think are to little to have God send us to hell, are actually enough to send a person to hell unless we repent and confess Jesus as our savior.
