Why did God say “I am, that I am” to Moses? Why was it not sufficient for God to say “I am”?

This is actually quite funny to me brother. I would rather think, why would we presume to tell God what to say? God is God, He can do and say whatever He wants to.

Exodus 3:14 NASB
14God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM"; and He said, "Thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.'"

Teraside

To use a more tried and true version KJV Ex: 3

14: And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM:

God says everything for a reason. And is not to be taken lightly. Especially if He has it documented for all to read. He speaks to His people so that they hear and consider and look to His Word. I am sorry that you find that seeking to understand God’s Word as funny or ridiculous or a waist of time. Are we not to ponder and meditate His Word?

Don't place words in my mouth dpmartin. I never said it was ridiculous or a waste of time. Your initial post asked: "Why was it not sufficient for God to say “I am”?

That statement warranted my response as it sounded as if you were assuming that God should have said I am only.

If you want to act childish, please do it somewhere else. If I wasn't trying to help you find the answer you seek, I would not have taken the time to respond.

I am that(who or what)I am - or, I am the self existent One: the Eternal the One who always has been and always will be

(Ps 90:2) This is shortened to I AM here, the Ever-present and Living One. It is equivalent to Jehovah the Eternal.
...................................
God said to Moses go to Pharaoh.

Moses asked ""What am I to say.....who sent me"?

God said just go on and say "I am has sent you" ......And if they want more information you can tell them "I am that I am" has sent you.

No one else who ever lived can say that.. We all have to say...I am because of .....parents.......circumstances......environment.

But God is life supreme. "I am that I am" indicates Eternity

I have made an attempt to answer you question 'dpmartin'

But it would be of help with any future questions, if you were to give a bible reference.......and the reason for such question. This will help us to be more accurate, if possible, as we endeavor to give answer.

God Bless You

I agree. Your posts are confusing and tricky. Then you blame others for misunderstanding? Doesn't make sense. I hope your not a teacher nor a preacher if that's how you ask questions then deny the answers.
