Foolish and Senseless People
Jeremiah 5:20-22 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
20Declare this in the house of Jacob and proclaim it in Judah:
21“Hear this, O foolish and senseless people,
who have eyes but do not see,
who have ears but do not hear.
22Do you not fear Me?”
declares the LORD…
Translated to today, this is speaking to the church in a specific location. Since I live in the USA, and this is what I know, I will apply this to the church in my nation. First of all, so much of what is called “church” here in the USA are businesses being led by men who are marketing the church to the people of the world, all of which God forbids. And so they entertain the world in order to attract them to their gatherings, and they alter the gospel to make it less offensive and more acceptable to the world and to the flesh.
Therefore, those who have adopted these worldly gatherings which are being marketed to the world and which are altering the gospel message in order to not offend the ungodly, and in order to attract the world to their gatherings, they are senseless people who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear, for they do not stand on the truth of God’s word. And they themselves are not sharing the biblical gospel with others, either, for they would rather be liked by the world than to be rejected for speaking the truth.
Stubborn and Rebellious Hearts
Jeremiah 5:23-27 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
23But these people have stubborn and rebellious hearts.
They have turned aside and gone away.
24They have not said in their hearts,
‘Let us fear the LORD our God,
who gives the rains, both autumn and spring, in season,
who keeps for us the appointed weeks of harvest.’
25Your iniquities have diverted these from you;
your sins have deprived you of My bounty.
26For among My people are wicked men;
they watch like fowlers lying in wait;
they set a trap to catch men.
27Like cages full of birds,
so their houses are full of deceit.
Therefore they have become powerful and rich.
Many are those who profess faith in Jesus Christ with their lips but whose hearts are far from God. They do not fear (honor, respect, revere, obey) God and His Word, for they are convinced that a mere verbal confession of faith in Jesus is all that is required of them in order for them to be forgiven all their sins and to have God’s heaven as their eternal destiny. For that is what they are being taught by many men who call themselves pastors of churches. And so they don’t bother to search the Scriptures for the truth.
Therefore, so many of them feel at liberty to continue in deliberate and habitual sin against God, and not in walks of obedience to His commands, for they have chosen to believe the lies and to reject the truth of the gospel of Christ. And among them are many wicked men who are laying traps for the naïve by promoting the lies of Satan as though they are truth while they reject the truth of the gospel while calling it “works salvation.” But Jesus taught we must die to sin and obey God or we don’t have life with God.
The People Love It So
Jeremiah 5:30-31 BSB (Berean Standard Bible)
30A horrible and shocking thing
has happened in the land.
31The prophets prophesy falsely,
and the priests rule by their own authority.
My people love it so,
but what will you do in the end?
So this is the present situation in so much of what is being called “church” in the USA today. So many people are following after false prophets and teachers and pastors who are deliberately diluting the gospel message in order to appease human flesh and to not offend the ungodly of the world who they are trying to attract to their gatherings. And so many pastors are leading congregations more like cult leaders who demand full loyalty to themselves, often above or in place of full loyalty and devotion to God.
And people who call themselves “Christians,” or who make no professions of faith in Jesus Christ, have in the past or still are in the present flocking to these gatherings where the lies are being taught in place of the truth and where those addicted to sin are being pacified in their sins rather than being brought to biblical repentance, and where the “pastor” is taking the place of God in the minds and lives of the people. For so many of these gatherings appeal to the desires of the flesh, and they do not call the people to repent.
The Gospel
But Jesus Christ taught that to come to Him we must deny self, take up our cross daily (die daily to sin), and follow (obey) Him. For if we hold on to living in sin and for self, we will lose our lives for eternity. But if we deny self, die daily to sin, by the Spirit, and we walk in obedience to our Lord and to His commands, in His power, then we have eternal life with God. For not everyone who calls Him “Lord” will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one DOING (obeying) the will of God (see Luke 9:23-26; Matthew 7:21-23).
For by God-gifted faith in Jesus Christ, which is not of our own doing, we are crucified with Christ in death to sin and raised with Christ to walk in newness of life in Him, no longer to live as slaves to sin but as slaves to righteousness in walks of obedience to God’s commands. We are no longer to permit sin to reign in our mortal bodies to make us obey its desires. For if sin is what we obey, it results in death. But if obedience to God is what we obey, it results in sanctification, and its end is eternal life with God (see Romans 6:1-23).
[Matthew 7:13-14,21-23; Luke 9:23-26; John 10:27-30; Acts 26:18; Romans 1:18-32; Romans 2:5-10; Romans 3:23; Romans 6:1-23; Romans 8:1-14; Romans 12:1-2; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10,19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:1-22; 2 Corinthians 5:10,15,21; Galatians 5:16-24; Ephesians 2:8-10; Ephesians 4:17-32; Ephesians 5:3-6; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 3:1-19; Hebrews 4:1-13; Hebrews 10:19-39; Hebrews 12:1-2; 1 Peter 2:24; 1 John 1:1-10; 1 John 2:1-6; 1 John 3:4-10; Revelation 2:1-29; Revelation 3:1-22]
So, please know the truth, believe the truth, and reject the lies of Satan.

Zeal for Your house, it consumes me.
Lord, I love my times with You.
I love to worship You and sing Your praises.
Time in Your Word brings me closer to You,
List’ning to You speaking to me,
Gently guiding me in truth.
Lord, You are my life’s example,
Showing me how I should live.
I love to walk with You where’er You lead me.
No greater joy have I when serving You.
Loving, giving, resting in Your strength,
I’m yielding to Your will.
Zeal for Your house, it consumes me.
See the church turned upside down:
Marketing ventures taking place of worship,
Men of the gospel turning into clowns.
Gospel message made appealing,
So the world will feel at home.
Lord, we need a great revival.
Turn their hearts, Lord, back to You.
Open the blind eyes, turn them all from darkness,
Lord, to the light. May they return to You,
Turn from their sin, forsake idols,
Be restored to God again.

The house of the Lord is the temple of God, which is the body of Christ, which is comprised of those who have trusted in Jesus Christ to be Lord and Savior of their lives. It is not a building, and it is not a human organization, or a church denomination, nor is it a not-for-profit corporation...
