For what [is] the allotment of God from above, And the inheritance of the Almighty from on high? [Is] it not destruction for the wicked, And disaster for the workers of iniquity? Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps? Job 31:2-4 NKJV
God’s awareness of your actions can mean both good news for the righteous and a sobering wake-up call to those living disobediently. God is aware of the steps you take in holiness or in service of your own ego, and you will bear the fruit of your decisions and see consequences before God. The challenge? Sometimes it appears that the wicked are blessed and the holy are cursed. That illusion may appear to be the case for now, but what is built on the rock of obedience will surely stand the test of time.
The life of faith trusts that God will reward people for what they have done, and so you must look to the long term as you consider the impact of your actions. Today’s temporal benefit may lead to tomorrow’s curse. Whatever you can gain today by living disobediently, you cannot outrun the justice of God. The good news is that you also can’t outrun God’s mercy and forgiveness.
As you set out to right your wrongs, God will surely bless you, even if you don’t see that blessing today.
Prayer: Lord, help me love Your teachings and follow Your ways, even if obedience means greater challenges today.
