What is the Unpardonable Sin?

Running contrary to the Character of God, is the belief that there is an unpardonable sin that a true believer in Jesus Christ can commit. Some mistakenly believe that a true-believer can walk away from Jesus Christ thereby sealing their doom for all eternity. Having committed the unpardonable sin they will never be able to be renewed again unto saving grace. Yet, scripture teaches us that before God's grace, (His free, unmerited favor), can be appropriated, we must meet the condition He has established for receiving it. The condition is simply this: we must agree with God that there is nothing within us that somehow merits His grace.

We qualify for God's grace by admitting we do not deserve it. We qualify by admitting that we are sinners and that we have no claim on God's grace and love. We qualify by faith that Jesus died for sin and that He freely offers us His saving grace for God said in Psalm 103:3, that He forgives ALL our sins.

With this knowledge, the unpardonable sin is a sin which disqualifies a person from receiving God's saving grace , and since we are saved by grace, the deliberate refusal to accept that free offer of saving grace automatically blocks one from the forgiveness of their sins.

Jesus taught us in Matthew 12 31-32, that every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men but the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven..........either in this life, or the age to come." ( age to come meaning that an unsaved person cannot be saved after this age... or this life is over).

With this said we see three things which are true.
1. ALL sin will be forgiven but one
2. Blasphemy is speaking against the Holy Spirit
3. This blasphemy is an eternal sin.

When Jesus died upon the cross, He became sin and sin was nailed to the cross. Those who are in Christ have had all their sins, from birth to death forgiven by God. This means that sins we have not even committed yet were nailed to the cross. They, through Jesus' death, are no more. There was no sin we commit that Jesus didn't know about and nail to the cross when he died.

This means that every sin, failure, turning away, backsliding sin we commit, Jesus already paid the price for. Acts 10:43 and 1 John 1;7 will prove this out. ALL our sins are forgiven.. even any form of blasphemy we committed. Yes, even Paul , a former blasphemer himself was forgiven by God. His blasphemy was nailed to the cross too.

The pharisees heard of this healing and said that Jesus had casts out the demons by Beelzebub; the ruler of demons. ( satan himself). In other words, they said that Jesus did his work by the power of satan rather than God.

Basically they were calling evil good, and good evil and had refused to accept that Jesus was the coming messiah. This meant that their sin was the rejection of Jesus Christ as the promised messiah. They were rejecting The Way to eternal life. This meant that by choice, they were outside of God's saving grace.

We can now see that the unpardonable sin is the only sin which disqualifies one from God's saving grace. It is not a Christian who turns their back on God and walks away. This is impossible. A true believer, born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit cannot lose their salvation. They can fail, they can sin, they can backslide, yet, all their sins were paid for at Calvary. All they need to do is turn again to Jesus. No true believer can Blaspheme God because All their sins were forgiven when they came to Jesus Christ.

Hey mate good post but I have a few issues with it. I think your right about the unpardonable sin fo rthe most part. but its not the rejection of Christ that is the issue only its the rejection of the Holy Spirit, which I think you were saying. It is the Holy Spirit that calls us to GOd convicts us or sin judgment etc. so if we dont listen to the Holy Spirit or even call the Spirit the devil then how can we come to Christ in confession without the conviction first acknowledged. In short the unpardonable sin is the sin that you wont repent of the one you wont acknoledge. without confession there is no forgivness.

adn the whole idea that once a person is saved then they can not walk away is really saying GOd gives us free Choice untill we come to Him then He takes away our free choice which in my opinion is not biblical.

many may ask why would someone who knows GOd and has the Holy spirit leave well that is not the point the point is they can if they want. the only person that has the power to take your salvation away is you.

Heb 6:4 For [it is] impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
Heb 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
Heb 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put [him] to an open shame.

can one lose their salvation Hebrews says yes. free choice is a gift of God and is never taken away. but praise GOd that no one els can take us from the hand of God.

What is the Job of the Holy Spirit? The Job of the Holy Spirit is to convict us of sin and draw us to Jesus Christ. If you reject the Holy Spirit, you have rejected Jesus. a person cannot come to Jesus unless he is first drawn by the Holy Spirit.

The Pharisees... as legalistic, arrogant and full of pride as they are, were included in "For God so loved the World that he gave his only begotten son that WHO SO EVER......" Jesus died for them too, yet they , like all unbelievers have not received the gift; they can't receive it because they deny the very conviction of their sins by the Holy Spirit and the drawing of the Holy Spirit to Jesus.

They remain outside of God's grace by their own refusal to believe that Jesus is the Messiah.

Not only do they reject Jesus as the Messiah, they say that he is from satan.

but guess what? They were given until death to repent and come to Jesus. If they would have, their sins... all of them... would have been washed white as snow.

Rejecting, they are lost and outside of God's grace. Unpardonable until they humbly come to the throne of God for mercy.
